How Yoga Changed My Life
If I am being 100% transparent with you all, I didn’t start doing yoga until I didn’t have another choice. I have a history of struggling with food and overexercising. I have a tendency to run my body to the ground, so when my exercise was forced to be lessened, I turned to yoga to fill the void. Honestly, at first, the idea of sitting through 30 minutes to an hour of yoga sounded so unbelievably boring that the first couple weeks, I never finished a single session. Ever. Now that I think about it, it was probably my fault for going into each and every yoga session with a horrible attitude. The problem was, is that I had an all or nothing mentality. If my yoga session wasn’t almost an hour long, I had failed. I felt like it did my body absolutely NO good to do fifteen minutes of yoga and call it day. But I was so so wrong.
Truthfully speaking, yoga is a gradual thing. I started with literally 10-15 minute sessions, and in a short period of time, I found myself craving my yoga time. It was so odd, I didn’t feel normal if I did not do my quick yoga. Eventually, I started to increase my yoga sessions in duration, and began to become curious with how yoga worked. Now, I am no yoga expert, and if you asked me any technical yoga terms, I could not tell you, but I do know how to do a mean triangle pose now. Anyways, as my yoga durations increased, I remember doing one specific yoga session that was 45 minutes long, and it literally felt like 15 minutes. I really went full on zen and felt so relaxed and in control of my body it rejuvenated me in ways I cannot simply explain, you just have to experience it yourself!
The Benefits of Yoga
The benefits of yoga are genuinely endless! It improves your strength, flexibility, provides back pain relief, eases arthritis symptoms and heart health, relaxes and brightens your mood, manages stress, and so much more (read more on the benefits of yoga here). Additionally, there are so many different forms of yoga! You can do a more fast-paced style, slow and regenerative, strength, or flexibility focused. Yoga can bring you into the best shape of your life mentally and physically! Additionally, unlike walking, you don’t need optimal weather to practice. Now I am not saying walking is not an amazing form of exercise, oh my, please please walk. It is sooo good for you! But yoga can be done anytime, anywhere, and in any location without having to leave the comfort and safety of your own home!
Starting Your Yoga Journey
Now to start your yoga journey, I recommend investing in some affordable exercise clothes. Some of my favorites are these amazon sports bras, amazon leggings, and amazon tank tops. Then I recommend investing in some yoga blocks, to assist you especially if you’re new! They are super cheap and I will link my favorite ones here! I highly recommend starting your yoga journey. It doesn’t have to be everyday, it doesn’t have to be an hour long, just fifteen minutes, no distractions, to stretch and loosen your body and just breath! It does not matter what size you are or if you only have five minutes. Starting to truly allow yourself to breath and relax will truly change your life for the better!
